The State House is the official workplace of the President of Sierra Leone; and is the seat of the government of Sierra Leone. It is located at State Avenue, Tower Hill, in central Freetown, the capital city of Sierra Leone.
The working office of the president of Sierra Leone is at State House, However, the official residence of the president of Sierra Leone is at Hill Station Presidential Lodge in the west end of Freetown. The State House seat just down a hill from the House of Parliament of Sierra Leone and just a few blocks from the Sierra Leone Ministry of Defence building.
Official receptions and meetings with visiting foreign heads of state and international delegations are held at the State House.
The State House is heavily guarded by a special unit of soldiers of the Sierra Leone Armed Forces appointed by the president himself. The building is under 24 hour security surveillance.
The entrance to the State House compound is closed to the public and only authorized persons or Vehicles are permited to enter the coumpound.
The senior staff to the president and governments advisors offices are located inside the State House, including the office of the Chief of Staff to the President, The office of the Sierra leone Ministry of Political and Public Affairs, the office of the Sierra Leone Ministry of Internal Affairs and Local Government.
It was built in 1895 in colonial days and was the residence of the governor General of Sierra Leone. It became the official residence of the Prime Minister of Sierra Leone from 1961-1971. Since 1971, the State House has served as the official residence and principal workplace of the President of Sierra Leone.
